Trade and Globalization

Researchers: Brendan Sweeney, Charlotte Yates, Jeffrey Carey, John Holmes

Automotive supply chains and market are highly internationalized, and the organization of the automotive industry is very dependent on international trade agreements. New trade agreements regularly come into effect and existing trade agreements are sometimes re-negotiated. Understanding the impact of new and re-negotiated trade agreements on the organization of the global automotive industry and on the competitiveness of Canada’s automotive industry is a priority for the APRC. APRC researchers are engaged in several research projects related to trade and globalization, including:

  • Analyses of the impacts of the renegotiation of NAFTA on Canada’s automotive industry. Recent reports and presentations are available here, here, and here.
  • The impacts of the TPP/CPTPP on Canada’s automotive industry. Reports and publications are available here and here.
