Lunch and Learn, featuring Thomas Klier

On November 18th, 2014, Dr. Thomas Klier gave a presentation to the APRC titled “The Evolving Geography of the North American Automotive Industry.” Dr. Klier currently holds the position of Senior Economist and Research Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, and is one of the foremost researchers of the geography of the automotive industry. His work is widely published in top economics and geography journals, and he is the co-author (with Jim Rubinstein) of the 2008 book “Who Really Made your Car?.”
The lunch and learn presentation was held in Room 107 of the McMaster Automotive Research Centre (MARC) in the McMaster Innovation Park. Speaking to a packed room of academics, graduate students, and industry and government stakeholders, Dr. Klier’s talk emphasized the resiliency of the Great Lakes automotive manufacturing region in the context of the emergence of auto alley. He also examined the recent rise of the automotive manufacturing industry in Mexico, an issue of interest for many audience members. Click here for a copy of his presentation.
